One thing I like is that when you buy books here in the Netherlands they're always wrapped in paper rather than stuffed in a plastic sack. Of course, if they weren't wrapped at all that would be the best solution (i.e., least wasteful), but I still sort of like the practice because it feels a little nostalgic.
Haven't posted in a really long while, and for now can only manage this bit of randomness:
Check out the PB&J campaign to learn about surprising ways in which you can help save the environment. Now this is a movement that I can really get behind and enthusiastically support (although I'm a bit of a purist, and prefer peanut butter only). I have eaten a PB sandwich everyday for lunch since my arrival here to the Netherlands. (Okay, so sometimes it's an almond butter sandwich. And sometimes I add banana slices. Regardless I am staying generally true to the concept.) Why? Well, I'm not going to eat frikandel, and I can't eat cheese, as I'm lactose intolerant. But, honestly, it mostly just boils down to the fact that I love them.
Besides, according to this article, PB is darned healthy; for example:
Women who ate peanut butter five days a week had a 20 percent lower risk of developing diabetes compared to those who didn’t eat the spread, according to a 2002 report in The Journal of the American Medical Association.
It also makes you skinner*, richer, increases sexual stamina, and irons out any personality disorders from which you might be suffering.
Filed under: Apparently selfish but actually indirect acts of environmentalism that I embrace (and other happenstance miracles).
*There is some supportive evidence to this claim.
